Subfamily Apataniinae Wallengren

Only the genus Apatania is known from Japan.

Genus Apatania Kolenati

Fifteen species belonging to this genus have been recorded from Hokkaido, northern Japan, however, Apatania iijimae, Apatania kitagamii and a 'species' with tentative alphabetic designation described based on the larval stage have not yet been associated with the adult atage. Furthermore, Tsuda (1936) described a larva of an unnamed 'species' from Hokkaido. Apatania fuscostigma Matsumura was synonymized with Limnephilus sericeus (Say), Limnephilidae, by Nozaki and Tanida (1996), and Apatania koizumii Iwata 1927 was transferred to the genus Neophylax, Uenoidae, by Mitsuhashi et al. (2000).
