Subfamily Phryganeinae Burmeister
Seven genera have been recorded from Japan.
Genus Agrypnia Curtis
Five named species were recorded from Japan. Larvae recorded as a European
species, Phryganea varia, by Iwata (1927a, 1927b) undoubtedly belong to this genus, but cannot
be identified as a species (Wiggins 1998). A. colorata Hagen recorded by Kuwayama (1973) as Dasystegia principalis (Martynov) is a misidentification of A. acristata or A. sordida (Wiggins 1998).
Agrypnia acristata Wiggins 1998
Dasystegia ulmeri: Kuwayama 1973, 36, Hokkaido (Hidaka), Honshu (Kyoto, Osaka). Misidentification
mentioned by Wiggins (1998).

Type locality. Hokkaido (Kushiro), Japan.
Distribution. Japan (Hokkaido, Honshu, Kyushu), Sakhalin, Kuriles.
Remarks. Wiggins (1998) pointed out that this species was widely misidentified
as A. ulmeri (Martynov). However, Zhou et al. (2016) suggeted the posibility based on molecular analyses that A. acristata, A. czerskyi and A. ulmeri are belonging to a single species. Further morphological study of these
species is needed.

and Nozaki (1992).

by Gyotoku and Nozaki (1992) determined as this species by Wiggins (1998).
