Six named genera belonging to this family have been recorded from Japan. A species probably belonging to the genus Polycentropus Curtis was also recorded from Japan (Tanida 1997b), but its generic status is not clear. A species recorded as Polycentropodidae gen. sp. by Morita (1999a) was described as Eoneureclipsis montanus, a member of the family Psychomyiidae, by Torii and Nishimoto (2011). Nishimoto (2016) also recorded a species belonging to an unidentified genus as a cave-dwelling species.

Genus Neureclipsis McLachlan

Inaba et al. (2014) decided that the genus Neucentropus Martynov is a synonym of this genus based on examination of adult and larval stages. One species belonging to this genus has been recorded from Japan.

Remarks. Inaba et al. (2014) examined the type series specimens of Neureclipsis kyotoensis and Kyopsyche japonica, and recognized that these species are synonyms of Neureclipsis mandjurica.

Genus Nyctiophylax Brauer

Four named species belonging to this genus have been recorded from Japan. The genus Paranyctiophylax was established with the type species P. kisoensis by Tsuda (1942a). Although Neboiss (1993) recognized it as a distinct genus based on character of looped anal vein in forewings, Malicky (1994) treated it as a subgenus of this genus. Tanida (1997b) recorded an unnamed species probably belonging to this genus from Okinawa-jima, but the specific and generic status of this species has not yet been clear.

Genus Polycentropus Curtis

Iwata (1927a, 1927b) recorded a European species Polycentropus flavomaculatus Pictet based on only larval specimens from Honshu and Kyushu. However, Tsuda (1942) proposed that the name should not be used for Japanese fauna because adults of this species had never been found from Japan.
Tanida (1997b) recorded an unnamed species probably belonging to this genus from Okinawa-jima, however, neither generic nor specific status of this 'species' is clear.
