Three subfamilies, Eoneureclipsinae, Psychomyiinae and Tinodinae, belonging
to this family have been recorded, and the genus Eoneureclipsis Kimmins was recently recorded from Japan.

Genus Psychomyia Latreille
Twelve species belonging to this genus have been recorded from Japan. In
addition, Akagi (1959) described Psychomyia sp. PA based on not only the larva but also adult male, but the specific status of this species has not yet been solved. Furthermore, an unnamed species accompanied with an alphabetic code was described for a larva, but it was not associated with adults. Tsuda (1942) pointed out that Psychomyia pussila (Fabricius, 1781) recorded by Iwata (1927) was a mis-identification. The
genus Psychomyiella Ulmer was treated to the genus Psychomyia Latreille by Malicky (1993) and Li and Morse (1997a).
